Let me know if this is you...
You're at the park, or the neighborhood cook out, and you see the group of kids aged 3-8 just sprinting FOR HOURS. Your first thought is, "I wish I still had that kind of energy." If you’re nodding along, you’re not alone. The boundless energy that kids seem to have is something we all envy. But what if I told you that there’s a way to tap into that vitality? Let’s start by doing a little check-in. Raise your hand if any of these apply to you:
- You sleep 8 to 10 hours a night.
- You regularly spend time outside.
- You eat your vegetables.
- You limit your screen time.
- You move a ton just for the sake of moving.
If your hand is still by your side, don’t worry—welcome to adulthood in America. But here’s the thing: we already know what it takes to be healthy. The question is, are we practicing what we preach, especially if you're a parent?
What Would You Allow Your Child to Do?
Think about it for a moment. As a parent, would you let your child:
- Eat the same foods you eat throughout the day?
- Skip out on those veggies?
- Survive on just 6 hours of sleep?
- Spend hours scrolling on a phone instead of playing outside?
Chances are, you’d be more mindful of what your child eats, how much they sleep, and the amount of time they spend on screens. So, why not hold yourself to the same standard?
The Power of Habits
Habits reinforce other habits. If you start your day with 60 minutes of movement—whether it’s a brisk walk, a yoga session, or even just dancing around your living room—you’ll likely notice a positive shift in your energy levels.
It’s true, you might not reach toddler-level energy, but you’ll definitely feel more vibrant and ready to tackle the day. Movement fuels energy, and energy fuels more movement. It’s a virtuous cycle that can transform your daily routine.
Take the Challenge
Here’s a challenge for you: for the next week, pick JUST ONE of the above habits and really stick to it and see what happens.
Notice how you feel after just a few days. Chances are, you’ll find yourself with more energy, a clearer mind, and a greater sense of well-being.
